Overview & Features of Dirt Devil Razor Upright Vacuum
Right from the get-go we want to talk money. How often do you stumble across a bagless upright cleaner that comes with that many accessories and is so convenient for a variety of cleaning purposes? Not so often we’re sure. To make things even better, there is a “Razor” version (without the “pet” part) which doesn’t come with all the pet attachments and filters and costs even less. If you simply want a budget carpet cleaner, we would suggest opting for the cheaper version.
Not only is the Razor Pet cheap but it is also quite practical in its dimensions. It weighs only 12 pounds when empty and has quite the narrow body allowing it to manoeuvre easily through tight spaces. Thanks to its tall stance it also has a 10 feet cleaning reach which is great but also isn’t the most out of the Razor series, since the “Endura” models have over 12 feet of cleaning reach.
Vacuum Cleaning and Suction
The first thing that you notice when you turn the Razor Pet on is that it has a surprising amount of suction power for such a small model. The Spin4Pro brushroll complements the cleaning capabilities by easily handling dirt, debris, or pet hair from either hard floors or carpets.
The issue with have with this particular brushroll is that it clogs up quite easily, especially if your cat or dog is a long-haired breed. Not that it will ruin the brush but you will occasionally have to stop and clean it, especially if you only clean once or twice a week. A good workaround to that issue is using the Turboclaw pet tool attachment since it doesn’t clog up as much. Still, it has the downside of not having enough of a cleaning path to easily clean your carpet. The reason for that is that it is specially designed for upholstery and furniture.
If you are cleaning large amounts of dirt or debris, we suggest using the instant cleaning wand which is 3ft long and can reach a lot of places without you having to move the cleaner. It is, in fact, the reason why you get a 10ft reach with this cleaner. You can pop the wand out at any point in time, clean what needs to be cleaned, pop it back in its place, and continue cleaning with the main unit.
The same principle can be applied to the Turboclaw attachment and the crevice tool.
Despite struggling with a lot of pet hair, the sping4pro brushroll has a decent amount of performance on hard floors as well.
Construction
You’d expect a lot of moving parts making all sorts of noises when you’re cleaning with the Razor Pet but it is surprisingly well-built, especially for such a cheap vacuum. It holds its ground well and the hinge system at the bottom works flawlessly. On top of that it has improved steering which allows the head to swivel around tight corners at 180 degrees. It can also fit through narrow gaps thanks to its low profile.
Extra Features
The extra features here are mainly focused on the accessories. Apart from the vacuum cleaner, you get the Turboclaw pet tool, a 2-in-1 dusting brush, and a crevice tool. You also get the cleaning wand and the anti-hair wrap dirt cup as standard. If you get the Razor Pet (not just the Razor) you also get a filter which eliminates unwanted odors from the air coming out of the vacuum.
Another great carpet cleaner for pet households that comes from a reputable brand and has an excellent price to value ratio is the Bissell Turboclean Powerbrush Pet Upright Carpet Cleaner. Conclusion & Rating
Our Rating:
To be fair, it is easy to find at least a few downsides to any budget vacuum cleaner because that is in their actual nature. Cutting on a feature or two is what makes the model cheap after all. What is important, though, is that the Dirt Devil Razor Pet vacuum cleaner hasn't cut any corners when it comes to cleaning quality and convenience. It does an excellent job at what it is advertised for - pet hair and carpets. Granted, you will have to clean the clogged brushroll every once in a while but for one of the cheapest options out there, this truly is a great all-around deal. We gave the Razor Pet a score of four and a half out of five stars rating.
